Streaking
Hello all! Let’s talk streaking. And no, I don’t mean that thing that you did in college after a particularly wild party. No, I’m talking about starting a run streak. It’s been my goal to run everyday since society went to hell in a handbasket (thanks Covid-19!), so that once everything cools down and races start up again (hopefully this fall) that I’ll actually be in halfway decent shape for them. Plus, I’m currently planning on running 3 marathons on almost consecutive weekends next fall and I’d really like to finish and not die in the middle of one. (I’m running Chicago, Marine Corps, and New York.)
Anyways, this will be my third attempt at this since the start of quarantining. My first streak was 10 day, which I think might be the longest streak I’ve ever had running (don’t judge me). Then I fell off the horse for a couple of days and when I started up again I managed to go all of one day before falling off again. I’m talented like that. But this time I’m gonna do it. This time I’m going to keep the streak going. Because now I have the whole internet to judge me if I fail, and as we learned in the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, everyone on the internet sounds like Chandler from Friends.
I digress. One of the other ways I’m using to motivate myself is signing up for virtual races (or, in some cases, having my real life races converted to virtuals–I didn’t want to go to King’s Dominion anyways :/). So some days I’m working on earning race medals to add to my wall. I’ll talk more about virtual races in a later post.
Finally, I’m also using my boyfriend to keep me motivated. Dougie usually runs most races with me despite the fact that he’s faster (because I’m fun). But he helps me to convince myself to get out…even if he doesn’t always come with me ;). He does come with me most of the time, though.
If anyone has any thoughts about motivation, please feel free to let me know. Also, stay safe out there. This virus really is no joke (even if I do kid about it occasionally).
Happy Running!
